Surah Al-Baqarah – Verse 31 (Description / Explanation): Arabic: وَعَلَّمَ ءَادَمَ ٱلْأَسْمَآءَ كُلَّهَا ثُمَّ عَرَضَهُمْ عَلَى ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ فَقَالَ أَنبِـُٔونِى بِأَسْمَآءِ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ إِن كُنتُمْ صَـٰدِقِينَ Transliteration: Wa ‘allama Ādama al-asmā’a kullahā thumma ‘araḍahum ‘alal-malā’ikati faqāla anbi’ūnī bi-asmā’i hā’ulā’i in kuntum ṣādiqīn. Translation (Saheeh International): “And He taught Adam the names — all of them. Then He showed them to the angels and said, ‘Inform Me of the names of these, if you are truthful.’” --- Explanation: This verse highlights the honor and knowledge Allah granted to Prophet Adam (A.S.), the first human being. “And He taught Adam the names — all of them” — Allah gave Adam knowledge of all things: their names, uses, and purposes. This symbolizes human ability to learn, think, and understand — a gift that distinguished Adam from the angels. “Then He showed them to the angels…” — Allah presented what He taught Adam to the angels to demonstrate Adam’s superior knowledge. “If you are truthful” — Allah challenged the angels, reminding them that His wisdom in choosing Adam as His khalifah (representative on earth) was based on knowledge and purpose they did not fully understand. --- Lesson: 1. Knowledge is a divine gift — it elevates humans when used for good. 2. True honor comes through learning and obedience to Allah. 3. Allah’s wisdom is beyond human or angelic understanding.
