Cat saved baby from a bear

A house cat just fought off a black bear to save a baby and you won't believe how it happened—meet Smudge, a 12-pound tabby cat living with the Zhao family in their mountain home in North Carolina, and last June, mom Jessica brought her 18-month-old son Ethan outside to play in their fenced backyard while Smudge lounged nearby in the afternoon sun, but Jessica went inside for just 30 seconds to grab Ethan's sippy cup from the kitchen when a young black bear, probably around 200 pounds, wandered into the yard through an open gate attracted by the smell of their grill, and the bear spotted little Ethan sitting in the grass and started approaching him with curiosity while Ethan giggled and reached toward the bear, having no idea of the danger, but before Jessica could even get back outside, Smudge saw what was happening and this 12-pound cat launched herself directly at a bear 17 times her size, puffing up to twice her normal size, releasing a sound Jessica described as 'demonic,' and slashing at the bear's face with everything she had, so the bear reared back in shock and confusion, swiping at Smudge, but she didn't back down.
